Monochromic: Why bring the Lucky Swallow into your home?

In the 50s and 60s, it was not uncommon to see ceramic swallows adorning the facades of Provençal houses. They were a symbol of spring, the return of fine weather, and, above all, a powerful good luck charm for the home.
Long fallen into disuse, this tradition was masterfully revived by the Marseille brand Monochromic. Its creator, Karine Lanny, took this popular symbol and refined it, modernized it, and gave it vibrant colors, including the famous Outremer Blue that we are so obsessed with.

    1. The "Fickle" Swallow: Design in Motion

    It's not a static object; it's a dynamic sculpture.

Unlike older models, which were often a little heavy, the "Volage" model has taut, faceted, almost aerodynamic lines. It gives the impression of cutting through the air.
Handcrafted from natural clay, it captures light thanks to its geometric edges. It's not just a decoration; it's a wall sculpture that changes its appearance depending on the time of day and the lighting in your room.

Ultramarine Blue: an intense shade reminiscent of the Majorelle Gardens or Yves Klein's art.

How to create a successful "Flight"?
The classic mistake is to place a single swallow in the middle of a wall. Swallows are birds that live in groups!

    • The odd number rule: For a natural and dynamic effect, install them in groups of 3 or 5.
    • Movement: Do not align them horizontally. Create an upward curve, as if they are flying towards the ceiling or a window. This visually enlarges the room and gives a sense of freedom.
« I wanted to restore this popular object to its former glory, by treating it as a piece of architecture. »

    3. 100% Southern French Expertise

    • Made in France: Everything is designed and manufactured in the south of France. It's a local product that supports regional craftsmanship.
    • Eco-friendly paints: Monochromic uses solvent-free paints, respectful of the environment and the indoor air of your home.
    • Easy to install: A simple angled nail is all it takes. The back of the swallow has a specially designed notch to hold it perfectly in place while flush against the wall.

    Can we put them outside?
Although they are ceramic, most Monochromic finishes (especially matte and satin ones like Ultramarine Blue) are recommended for indoor use. If you wish to use them on a facade, ensure they are well protected or opt for specific glazed finishes if available.
    How do I clean them?
The paintwork is delicate. Do not use chemicals or abrasive sponges. A simple wipe with a soft cloth (microfiber) or a duster is sufficient to remove dust and maintain the luster of this deep blue.
