The Magic of Räder Houses: How White Porcelain Lights Up Our Homes

Sometimes, it doesn't take much to change a room's atmosphere: dim lighting, a noble material, and a little silence. This is exactly what Räder promises.
This German brand tells stories ("Design Stories") through objects of disarming simplicity. Their absolute bestseller? The tealight houses. Whether small, large, with a pointed roof or a church-like architecture, they all share one thing in common: this matte, pure white porcelain that lets light filter through as if by magic.

    1. The secret of "Biscuit" porcelain

Why is this texture so distinctive?

What makes Räder special is its almost exclusive use of "biscuit" porcelain.
Unlike classic tableware, which is shiny and smooth, biscuit porcelain is unglazed. It remains raw, matte, and slightly granular to the touch.
This technical choice changes everything: without the enamel layer, the porcelain is more translucent. When you light a candle inside, the light doesn't just escape through the small windows; it passes through the material itself, giving the house a warm, living glow, almost like skin.

The magic begins as soon as it's lit: the biscuit porcelain diffuses a soft, soothing light.

    2. Create your own luminous village

The art of accumulation (the secret of Hygge style).

Never leave a house on its own!
A single Räder house on a shelf is nice. But three or four houses of different sizes grouped together are magical.
    To create your perfect "village":

    • Vary the heights: Mix a classic "Lichthaus" with a small chapel and a tall urban building.
    • Add nature: Place them on a tray with a few eucalyptus branches or moss for an enchanted forest effect.
    • Safety first: If you're creating a large, dense village, opt for LED candles or string lights inside to prevent heat from building up too much between the houses.
« We want to awaken our desire to dream. Each piece is a little bit of poetry offered for everyday life. »

    3. The Räder universe: Much more than just houses

    - Tableware: Räder uses its biscuit design on plates and cups, often engraved with messages ("Bon Appétit," "Love"). It's delicate and perfect for a poetic brunch.

    - Vases: Their white vases follow the same aesthetic. Often textured with leaf or face reliefs, they transform a simple bouquet into a work of art.

    - Hanging Decorations: Porcelain elements (stars, moons) to hang in windows to play with daylight.

How to clean biscuit porcelain (which stains easily)?
It's the slight downside of its qualities: since it's not enameled, it's porous. Watch out for grease or red wine stains! To clean soot or ingrained dust, use a magic eraser (cleaning sponge) or put them in the dishwasher (gentle cycle), as porcelain is a material fired at very high temperatures and therefore resistant.
    Tealight or LED?
Both work. The tea light offers that inimitable flickering flame that brings the house to life. The LED is safer if you have children, pets, or if you place the house on a wooden bookshelf. Plus, the LED won't blacken the inside of the roof!
