Calypso by Monochromic: The seashell that brings a breath of sea air to your decor.

The sea has always been an endless source of inspiration for artists, from Botticelli to Matisse. Karine Lanny, the Marseille-based designer behind Monochromic, couldn't overlook it.
With the Calypso model, she reinterprets an absolute classic: the scallop shell. But forget the somewhat dated "beach souvenir" vibe. Here, the shell transforms into a sleek, geometric, and decidedly contemporary wall sculpture. It's the call of the open sea, right in your living room.

    1. The "Birth of Venus" spirit

A mythical shape revisited by design.

The name Calypso was not chosen at random. It refers to the sea nymph in the Odyssey, who captivates with her beauty.
This ceramic piece reinterprets the characteristic striations of a seashell, but treated with the Monochromic "touch": clean lines, a faceted appearance that plays with shadows and light. Hung on a wall, it immediately evokes Botticelli's Birth of Venus. It is an object that brings femininity, softness, and a very elegant "Art Deco" feel.

A wall sculpture that changes its appearance according to the light of day.

    2. Dare to embrace "Seaside" decor (without the kitsch)

How do I integrate it without making it look like a "fishing shack"?

    Where to install your Calypso?
The shell is, of course, king in the bathroom.

    • Spa atmosphere: Place or hang a white or aqua green Calypso near the bathtub or sink. The ceramic is not afraid of humidity and enhances the "well-being" aspect.
    • As a headboard: This is the unexpected spot that works very well. A Calypso shell in Terracotta or Nude above the bed brings a symbolism of protection and dreamlike travel.
    • As a duo: They work very well in pairs, like attentive ears or open butterfly wings.
« Calypso, it's the memory of the water. A silent object that tells the stories of the waves and sun of the Mediterranean. »

    3. Marseille's Craftsmanship

Hand-cast: Like the entire collection (Cigales, Hirondelles...), the Calypso is hand-cast in workshops in the South of France.

Enamels: It is available in various finishes. The Matte finish absorbs light for a very contemporary, "powdered" look. The Glossy finish evokes mother-of-pearl and water, ideal for brightening a dark corner.

Installation: It has a notch on the back to be hung on a simple nail. It lies perfectly flat against the wall for an "embedded" effect.

Can it be used as a catch-all?
: Although it is designed as a wall decoration (it is flat at the back), its hollow shell shape theoretically allows it to be used flat on a console to hold keys or jewelry. It's a very nice repurposing of an object!
What color should I choose for a bathroom?
To maintain a fresh feel, Meudon White, Ultramarine Blue, or Green are perfect. If you want to warm up a white bathroom, opt for Terracotta or Coral to give the room a healthy glow.
